Curriculum - History

History

At Seamer and Irton School our study of History is routed in our school ethos of providing a broad and balanced curriculum based on the 2014 National Curriculum for Key Stage 1 and 2 History. We intend that our lessons are engaging, exciting and memorable. We would like our pupils to delve into a rich understanding of our world’s history, evoking interest, curiosity and a passion to learn more about the world we all live in, preparing pupils to succeed later in life.

Our history curriculum aims to give our pupils the best possible chance of retaining more and seeing history as a coherent narrative as opposed to a series of isolated facts.

The pupils will discover new facts and information themselves, as true Historians, by developing their enquiry skills that enable them to form their own opinions and interpretation of the past and ask historically relevant question to deepen their understanding.

We aim for many cross-curricular links in our History lessons and educational visits are a great opportunity for the teachers to plan for additional History learning outside the classroom, bringing History to life.

Additionally, Seamer and Irton CP School is situated in an area which is not greatly culturally diverse, therefore as a staff we are also passionate about ensuring our pupils understand the broad diversity of races, cultures and backgrounds from around the world and celebrate differences. Therefore, in the Autumn Term, the whole school celebrates Black History Month.
