Geography

At Seamer and Irton C.P School our geography curriculum aims to be inclusive to all pupils and encourage them to develop a greater knowledge and understanding of their local environment, the country we live in, the world, as well as their place in it.

We use Kapow Primary Geography as our scheme of work as it aims to inspire pupils to become curious and explorative thinkers with a diverse knowledge of the world; in other words, to think like a geographer. The knowledge and skills are progressive, as well as transferable to other curriculum areas and are used to promote their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. The content and structure allow for a broader, deeper understanding of the four areas of geography identified in the National Curriculum and ensures teachers have covered the skills required to meet the curriculum aims.

Geography is, by nature, an investigative subject so the units we study have a range of opportunities for investigating places in the local vicinity (for example, the school grounds, Seamer village, Scarborough, and the coast) and around the world, exploring the physical and human processes that have helped to shape the world we live in today. We intend to develop children’s curiosity and a fascination with the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives and make them confident and respectful global citizens.
