DT

At Seamer and Irton CP School our Design and Technology curriculum aims to provide pupils with opportunities to unleash their creative and innovative flair through engaging design and construction tasks with a real-life context for learning.  As an inspiring and practical subject, we intend to prepare our pupils to deal with an ever-changing world; encouraging pupils to be resourceful, practical and resilient.

We use Kapow Primary DT as our scheme of work which ensures pupils gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in the process of designing, making and evaluating. Knowledge and skills are taught progressively to ensure that all pupils are able to build on their prior learning and practise new skills in order to develop as they move through the school.

The design process is rooted in real-life and delivered in contexts that are relevant and pertinent to the pupils’ everyday lives as young designers and inventors of the future. Pupils will have the opportunity to visit local hospitality businesses and engineering fairs for inspiration, understanding and exciting real-life experiences.
